Q. Who owns a lunch box?
Q. When might you use it?
Holding up the closed lunch box ask the children to suggest what might be inside. Record their ideas in a list, drawing the children’s attention to the great variety of foods that they can have everyday for lunch. It may be helpful to use visual aids such as posters, photos, pictures or real foods. If there is time ask the children to draw a lunch they may have in their lunch box.
After discussing the various ideas, open the lunch box and show the children that it is empty – show disappointment.
Q. How would you feel if you opened your lunch box and it was completely empty?
Discuss feelings – sad, angry, hungry, surprised ……
Remind the children that today across the world, there are many children who will have nothing to eat. Tell the children that there are rich and poor everywhere, even in the places we live.
